2025 Agriculture Day

Welcome to Somerset County’s celebration of National Agriculture Day 2025: After the Harvest!

Each year, Somerset County celebrates the rich history of agriculture by educating the public about some of the more popular topics in local farming. Over the years we have shared the history of Somerset County’s Agricultural Community, the journey food takes from soil to spoon, and about the unique operations that call this great County their home. Have you ever wondered about what happens After the Harvest?

Have you ever wondered what happens on a farm after the height of market season? After the summer sun has set, the last pumpkin has been picked, and the corn maze has seen its last lost soul - farmers are still hard at work to ensure their operation remains viable during the cold winter months while planning the year ahead. A farmer’s job is never done!

During winter, farmers usually focus on soil preparation, equipment maintenance, pest control and irrigation more than planting and harvesting. However, some farmers grow cold-weather crops during chillier seasons, such as: Broccoli.

Kick off the day with the launching of the Somerset County Ag Day StoryMap. Learn about the tiniest workers in our County – the bees; and fun information about the animals that call our County home and how they impact our daily lives.
