Starting in March 2027, Somerset County will begin the replacement of Bridge No. D0202 on Mountain View Road. The project, located between Cherry Valley Road and Georgetown–Franklin Turnpike (CR 518), is expected to last approximately four months. The Project Location Map can be viewed here.
During this time, the bridge will be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Local residents should note that access to all driveways will be maintained throughout the construction period.
General traffic will be detoured via Georgetown–Franklin Turnpike (CR 518), Great Road (CR 601) and Cherry Valley Road. The Detour Plan can be viewed here.
Project Description
County Bridge No. D0202 carries Mountain View Road over Bedens Brook in Montgomery Township. The existing bridge is a three-span, simply supported prestressed concrete voided slab beams with composite reinforced concrete deck superstructure supported on concrete abutments. The existing 89 ft span bridge provides a two-lane, one in each direction, 28 ft clear roadway width with 4 ft sidewalk along the west side. The Project Location Map can be viewed here.
The existing structure is overall in poor condition due to condition of the substructure. The substructure is in poor condition due to the wide map cracking with heavy efflorescence and leakage throughout both abutment breast walls and piers walls. There is also severe spalling and scaling with deformed exposed rusted reinforcement and medium to wide map cracking on the south pier at both ends.
The purpose of this project is to restore the structural capacity of the bridge with three precast rigid frames with concrete pylons and 3-bar steel bridge railings. The roadway pavement width at the bridge will remain the same as existing. The western sidewalk will be widened from 4’ to 6’, to comply with NJDOT current standards.
This project is funded by FY2022 NJDOT Local Bridge Future Needs grant.
Public Information Meeting
A virtual public information meeting in regard to this project will be held prior to the Pre-Construction Meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to inform local residents, officials, and the general public of Somerset County’s proposed plans to replace the bridge that carries Mountain View Road over Bedens Brook. The information meeting allows the public an opportunity for a full update on the project, including construction schedule, and to ask questions to the Project Team.
