2024 Road Resurfacing and ADA Compliance Program, Somerset County, New Jersey

Ongoing signal work and ADA Compliance will be continuing at various sites.

Updated 01/14/2026

As part of the County’s current resurfacing project, the section of Amwell Road (CR 514) from Route 206 to Beekman Lane will be milled and repaved.  In conjunction with this milling and paving, a Road Diet will be implemented along Amwell Road from just west of Auten Road/Raider Boulevard to Beekman Lane.  The Road Diet will convert the existing four-lane roadway to a three-lane roadway providing one through lane in each direction with a center, two-way left-turn lane, and wider shoulders.  Road Diets have been proven to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians. The new lane configuration can calm traffic, reduce weaving, reduce the number of travel lanes that pedestrians must cross, and reduce left turn conflicts by separating left turning traffic outside of the through travel lanes.  More information about road diets can be found on the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) website: Road Diets (Roadway Reconfiguration) | FHWA

In conjunction with the road diet implementation, signal timing will be optimized at each of the County-owned traffic signals within the corridor. The following traffic signal phasing improvements will also be implemented with the project:

  • Protected left turn phases will be added for both the Amwell Road and Beekman Lane approaches at the signalized intersection of Amwell Road and Beekman Lane.
  • A protected left turn phase will be added to the Amwell Road approaches at the signalized intersection of Amwell Road and the Post Office.
  • A westbound Amwell Road right turn overlap phase will be added at the signalized intersection of Amwell Road and Auten Road/Raider Boulevard.

Additionally, crosswalks will be installed at four (4) unsignalized intersections within the section of the corridor with reduced lanes, which will provide safer crossings for pedestrians.  These intersections include Marshall Road, Pleasant View Road, CPL Langan Way, and Eves Drive. New Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) will be installed for the Amwell Road crosswalks at the intersections of CPL Langan Way and Eves Drive.

Collectively, the various improvements are intended to improve safety on the corridor for both motorists and pedestrians.
