Project Description

County Bridge No. D1302 carries Pottersville Road (CR 512) over Peapack Brook in the Borough of Peapack and Gladstone.  The existing bridge is a two-span structure consisting of a simply supported prestressed concrete adjacent voided slab beam span with a clear span of 40’ and a concrete slab with steel beam reinforcement with a clear span of approximately 9.5’.  Although separated by an average of 20’, the two spans are considered as a single bridge. The bridge provides a two-lane, one in each direction, 33 ft clear roadway width and sidewalk of various widths.  The Project Location Map can be viewed here.

The structure is in poor condition due to the condition of the superstructure, based on heavy granular corrosion with section loss on the steel beam bottom flanges. The structure is classified as Structurally Deficient due to poor condition of the superstructure.

The purpose of this project is to restore the structural capacity of the bridge and to eliminate the structural deficient classification with a single span, steel stringer with reinforced concrete slab supported on concrete abutments.  The roadway curb to curb width at the bridge will remain the same as existing, at 33’ and sidewalk width will be 8’ on both sides, to comply with NJDOT standards.

This project is funded by FY2021 NJDOT Local Bridge Future Needs grant.
