The Consumer Health Section of the Somerset County Department of Health conducts regular inspections of retail establishments in our contracted municipalities to ensure they comply with regulations.

  • Inspections cover a variety of establishments, including body art businesses, childcare centers, kennels and pet shops, massage parlors, recreational bathing facilities, retail food establishments, sewage disposal systems, tanning salons, well construction and water testing, and youth camps/campgrounds.
  • Additionally, staff investigate complaints related to childhood lead poisoning, public health nuisances, and rabies control.

We aim to educate both consumers and businesses in our contracted municipalities to promote the safety of employees and the public, by offering basic food safety and sanitation classes online through ServSafe.
