Somerset County is currently transitioning its youth leadership programming.

  • Youth Leadership Somerset (YLS) has officially concluded and will not return in its previous format
  • The September 2026–June 2027 term will be the final cohort of the Somerset County Youth Council (SCYC) as it currently exists
  • new, unified youth leadership program is being developed to better serve students in the future

During this transition, the County is developing a new, unified youth leadership program that builds on the strengths and legacy of both YLS and SCYC. This future program will focus on leadership development, civic engagement, and meaningful, youth-led community impact.

What happened to Youth Leadership Somerset?
Youth Leadership Somerset has officially concluded and will not return in its previous format.

Is the Youth Council still accepting members?
Yes. The September 2026–June 2027 term will be the final cohort of the Somerset County Youth Council as it currently exists. Application are open until May 31 for students in grades 7-11 who live in Somerset County.

Will the 2026–2027 Youth Council program be the same as previous years?
No. The 2026–2027 term will be a transition year, and the structure, expectations, and overall experience will differ from prior years.

What happens after the 2026–2027 term?
Following this term, the current Youth Council model will conclude. A new, unified youth leadership program will be introduced.

Who will be eligible for the new program?
The new program is expected to serve high school students in Somerset County. Additional eligibility details will be shared once finalized.
