Of all the County Clerk’s many duties, one of the happiest is the ability to officiate at wedding ceremonies. If you would like the Clerk to officiate at your wedding, please refer to the following guidelines:

LOCATION

Wedding ceremonies are conducted at the Somerset County Administration Building,

20 Grove St., Somerville, NJ 08876

SCHEDULING

Weddings are conducted by appointment only on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Please fill out this form to start scheduling your wedding.

If you cannot make it to your scheduled appointment, please call as soon as possible.  If you are more than 15 minutes late for your appointment time, your ceremony may be rescheduled or cancelled.

CEREMONIES IN OTHER LANGUAGES

The County Clerk can conduct ceremonies in several languages, including Spanish. Please inquire when scheduling your wedding.

FEES

The County Clerk is pleased to provide this service free of charge. However, there are fees for obtaining a marriage license and a certified marriage certificate.

MARRIAGE LICENSE

You must apply for and obtain a marriage license from the municipality where either party resides at least 72 hours before your ceremony. Visit NJ Vital Statistics or your local municipality for details and fees.

THE DAY OF THE WEDDING

You may park for free in the parking deck. Take the stairs or the elevator to the Green Level to enter the Administration Building. Proceed to the County Clerk’s Office (Election Division).

Bring your marriage license with you to the ceremony.

You may bring two witnesses and other guests to your ceremony.  If you do not have witnesses, we can provide them for you.  Please note that our facility can only accommodate a total of 20 individuals, including the newlyweds.

MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE

The County Clerk will file your license with the Borough of Somerville for processing. In about five days, you may obtain a certified copy of the marriage certificate from Somerville Borough Hall. Please contact them for hours and fees at 908-725-2300 x 1980.
