The County Clerk retains Petitions of Intent for Naturalization filed by Somerset County residents between 1830 and 1988. Our office can provide true copies of these records upon request.

If you would us to conduct a search please email countyclerk@somersetcountynj.gov with the following information about the petitioner whose records you are looking for:

  • Name (include other possible names and spellings)
  • Date of Birth (can be approximate)
  • Date of Naturalization (can be approximate)
  • Town or area of Somerset County where the person resided with approximate dates.

We can only search records for persons who resided in Somerset County. 

Certificates of Naturalization are not kept at the Clerk's Office; they are filed at the US Department of Justice in Newark
