Food Resources- Fresh Options

Somerset County has updated the Community Food Resources Map to continue helping residents find healthy, affordable, farm to table food close to home.

The innovative digital resource, which can be accessed from your favorite device, supports residents looking for fresh food options. This includes people looking to eat healthier, community members battling food insecurity, recipients of SNAP Benefits, or seniors eligible for the New Jersey Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program. Developed to reduce barriers to food access and strengthen partnerships among County agencies, local farms, food banks, and nonprofit organizations, the map remains a key tool in supporting the residents of Somerset County.

“It is Somerset County’s goal to make fresh and nutritious food accessible to residents,” said Commissioner Elizabeth Graner, liaison to Somerset County Human Services. “This update is designed to meet people where they are and so they can see what is available near their homes. By making this map easier to navigate, we are helping people quickly connect with the resources they need. It is a small change that will have a meaningful impact on residents across our County.”

The map now includes food banks, pantries, soup kitchens, as well as local farms and farmers markets that accept SNAP EBT. Recent enhancements by the County’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Services team improves site navigation, making it easier for residents to access these resources. New features also identify markets that accept SNAP benefits and offer SNAP Navigator assistance. Together, these updates increase awareness of local options, help reduce stigma around benefit use, and make it easier for residents to find resources that meet their needs.

Explore What’s New:

  • SNAP-Accepting Farmers Markets: Residents can now filter the map specifically to find local farms and farmers markets that accept SNAP benefits.
  • SNAP Navigator Locations: Residents can more easily locate sites offering in-person SNAP enrollment assistance and guidance.
  • Improved Navigation: Using this updated feature, new layers are accessible via the food box icon or the left-hand panel for quicker access.
