Somerset County Senior Wellness Centers Invite Seniors to Reduce Stress This December
The program schedule for all six Somerset County Senior Wellness Centers, which are operated by the Somerset County Office on Aging & Disability Services, is available for December 2025. All centers will be closed on December 11, 2025, for state and county-mandated professional in-service training, and on December 24-25, 2025.
The holiday season is nearly here, which means that people will be reconnecting with family and friends, shopping for gifts, and stepping away from their daily routines to recharge and relax. However, for many seniors, the fast-paced nature of the holidays can introduce additional stress and increase feelings of isolation, loneliness, and anxiety. Over time, these feelings can lead to social withdrawal, which can negatively affect emotional, mental, and physical health, according to the University of Michigan’s National Poll on Healthy Aging.
This December, seniors can find community, friendship, and learn how to reduce stress by visiting any of Somerset County’s Senior Wellness Centers. Each center is staffed by friendly professionals and offers a variety of programs designed to keep seniors active and healthy. From guided yoga and Zumba classes to crafting sessions and karaoke, seniors can get involved with fun activities while reducing stress and socializing with others.
Programs are free for registered members, unless indicated otherwise. Residents must call or visit a wellness center to register. Proof of identification, age, and residency are required.
For anyone aged 60 or older, Somerset County Senior Wellness Centers also offer a nutritionally balanced lunch, Monday through Friday, for a suggested donation of $2.50. The cost of lunch for those under 60 is $8.47. Menu choices include a hot meat-based or meatless entrée or a cold meat-based or meatless boxed lunch. Make reservations prior to 10 a.m. on the previous business day by calling the senior center you attend.
OOA&DS provides information regarding aging safely in place and in the community. For assistance, including caregiver support and resources, contact the main office at (908) 704-6346 or (888) 747-1122. Staff are available to meet you at a center or in your home.

Since prehistory, the winter solstice has been seen as a significant time of year in many cultures and has been marked by festivals and rituals. The pagan Scandinavian and Germanic people of northern Europe celebrated a twelve-day "midwinter" (winter solstice) holiday called Yule. Many modern Christmas traditions, such as the Christmas tree, the Christmas wreath, the Yule log, and others, are direct descendants of Yule customs. Of course, there is no better way than to celebrate the holidays than with music and scenes from holiday films. We also look behind the scenes of the Radio City Music Hall Holiday Spectacular! Scenes from the show include the Rockettes, and the arrival of Santa Claus. We travel around the world seeking out the best Christmas markets. We will go to Rockefeller Center in New York City to see the spectacular Christmas tree all lit up and shining brightly!
